7 Differences between Air Leak Test and Air Pressure Test

NO. 1 Different purpose
The purpose of the air tightness test is mainly to test the leakage of workpiece, especially small penetrating defects, and the purpose of pressure test is to detect the strength of the equipment and sealing performance, so the air tightness test is focus on whether the workpiece has small leakage, but the pressure test is focus more on the overall strength of the workpiece.
NO. 2 Different medium
Air Leak test commonly used air medium, N2 and the helium (applicable to medium with high toxicity,no leak or porous is allowed), and the medium of air pressure test will be the air.
NO. 3 Different sequence
The leakage test is normally detected after the completion of hydraulic pressure test and air pressure testing.
NO. 4 Different pressure value
The testing pressure is designed pressure when air medium of the air leak test,if adopted with other medium,it shall be adjusted based on the different medium.The testing pressure shall be 1.15 times of the designed pressure for the air pressure test.The Internal pressure equipment also needs to multiply the temperature dressing factor
NO. 5 Different occasions
The medium of the air leak test is high or extremely harmful medium, in principle,no leakage is allowed.The pressure test generally only detected when the hydraulic test cannot be adopted, or the large volume of the equipment.
NO. 6 Test Stress Checking
For pressure test,the stress value of the throidal thin film of the vessel shell shall not exceed the product between 80% of the yield point of materials under the test temperature and the coefficient of the welded joint of the cylinder. But the air leak test is not required.
NO. 7 Security
Its risk is higher than hydraulic pressure test whether it is air leak test or air pressure test, so they both has a high requirement for security protection, in addition to the necessary protection measures, the security personnel shall be on site supervision all the time.
